A year ago, I couldn’t have imagined my life being where it is now. At that time, I envisioned myself continuing to dedicate my days to the challenging role of a nonprofit CEO, passionately engaged in the “good fight.” While I loved the work, I witnessed how it took a toll on my well-being. The relentless pace had me constantly rushing from one task to another, leaving little room to simply exist.
The demands of my role left me with no time to dream or contemplate my personal future, as my focus remained fixed on the continuous growth of the organization I led. Regrettably, this also meant I couldn’t spare moments to be present with my family or explore their aspirations for the future.

Everything has undergone a significant transformation for me. In late July, I made the decision to step away from traditional employment and ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship. I established a small business dedicated to assisting nonprofits in finding their footing, crafting grant proposals, implementing effective systems, and strategizing for their organizational objectives.
In parallel, I took a significant step in my academic journey by applying to and subsequently being accepted into a Ph.D. program. This program allows me to delve deeply into a subject that I believe lies at the core of many challenges faced by nonprofit and government organizations: trauma.
To make these changes even more pronounced, we are taking both my small business and our little family overseas for the next chapter. With my spouse, who is of Irish descent, and our adventurous 12-year-old, who is excited to move beyond these borders, we collaboratively chose the location for my Ph.D. studies. In just a year’s time, our lives will have taken a remarkable turn as we immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Ireland!
